Plain language about what the PhotoSafe Check Companion extension accesses, and what it never does.
PhotoSafe Check is a read-only tool that helps users compare their local photos and videos with Google Photos. The browser extension works as a companion to the PhotoSafe Check desktop application.
To perform requested comparisons, the extension may process:
This information is used only to provide the extension's comparison functionality. Access to Google Photos is restricted to photos.google.com.
The extension stores its configuration and pairing information locally through Chrome's extension storage. The desktop application may store scan progress and comparison results locally on your device so scans can be resumed.
The extension communicates with the desktop application through a local connection to 127.0.0.1. Searches in Google Photos take place through Google's own website and are subject to Google's privacy practices. We do not send your scan data to developer-controlled servers or use advertising trackers or analytics in the extension.
PhotoSafe Check is read-only. It does not upload, delete, move, rename, overwrite, or modify local files or Google Photos content. The extension does not ask for or store your Google account password, and does not read your authentication cookies.
You can pause or disable the extension, remove it from Chrome, or clear its locally stored extension data. The desktop application manages its own locally stored scan data separately.
Information accessed through Chrome and Google Photos is used only to provide the extension's single stated purpose: read-only photo comparison. It is not used for advertising, profiling, or unrelated purposes, and is not sold to third parties.
We may update this policy if the extension's features or data practices change. The revision date above shows when this policy was last updated.
